Ttáwax̲t Birth Justice Center is thrilled to introduce our Lúlu Lounge, a lactation drop-in space for Ttáwax̲t clients and families. Guided by certified Indigenous Lactation Counselors, this initiative advances Ttáwax̲t’s mission, vision, and values to improve Indigenous maternal and infant health outcomes while strengthening kinship relations across generations.
Grounded in Indigenous ancestral knowledge and traditional wisdom, Lúlu Lounge takes its name from Lúlu, the Ichishkíin (Yakama) word for milk. Honoring human milk as a sacred first food, this warm, welcoming, and inclusive community space is designed to help families.
Lúlu Lounge is:
- A drop-in program — participants can join at any time without needing prior reservation, registration, or appointment.
- A learning space — participants can ask questions, share real experiences, learn together, and build lasting connections around the many ways little ones are nourished and cared for.
Whether expecting, newly postpartum, navigating breastfeeding or chestfeeding, pumping, combination feeding, or simply curious about infant feeding — parents and caregivers are invited to take a seat at Lúlu Lounge. Feeding a baby is one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences, and no parent or caregiver should have to navigate it alone.
What to Expect at Lúlu Lounge
Designed with maximum flexibility in mind, the drop-in format provides an inviting, unstructured environment where participants can engage organically — offering an open doorway to ask questions, learn together, and build community at their own pace.
Every feeding journey looks different. These guided discussions directly support family well-being by addressing a variety of specific experiences, including:
- Latch and positioning: Find comfortable, pain-free positions for parent and baby.
- Milk supply and feeding patterns: Understand whether a baby is receiving sufficient milk and learn about cluster feeding.
- Pumping and returning to work: Address pumping questions and concerns. Build a pumping schedule, and transition back to work or school.
- Combination feeding and formula: Integrate formula, explore supplementation methods, or adjust feeding goals without guilt.
- Unfiltered questions: Ask questions and discuss topics that caregivers may hesitate to bring up elsewhere.
Caregivers bring real-life joys, doubts, and questions, leaving with practical insights and strong community support.
A Judgment-Free Environment for Every Journey
At Ttáwax̲t Birth Justice Center, we firmly believe there is no single right way to feed a baby. Our culturally grounded care honors every path, meeting individuals exactly where they are with warmth, empathy, and technical support. Participants are always welcome to bring pressing questions, share personal stories, or simply sit back, listen, and take in the encouragement of peers in a safe, non-judgmental space.
